The Bishop Garrigan Volleyball team advanced to next weeks Class 2A District finals with a 3 games to 1 victory over Britt West Hancock last night: 21-25, 25-17, 25-13 and 31-29. In game number 3, the Bears trailed 10-5 in the match before taking 20 of the final 23 points in the game. They also clawed back trailing 24-21 in Game 4 to extend the game and eventually winning the game and the match.
Serving was the difference for the Bears. Bishop Garrigan had 6 service errors in the game one loss but only committed a total of 4 in the next three games. Kali Smith converted on 26 of 28 serves with 11 aces.
Christina Richter blasted 14 kills including a stretch of 4 consecutive points in game 3. Macy Fickbohm added 11 kills with Emily Behr chipping in with 9 kills.. Fickbohm also had a solid defensive night with 8 blocks.
The Golden Bears will take on Emmetsburg next Tuesday at Pocahontas high school. Emmetsburg topped Pocahontas last night 3 games to 1. The Golden Bears rolled over the E’Hawks earlier this year at the Emmetsburg tournament 2 games to none.
